Telling stories through research
The Challenge
Storybook is a qualitative research tool used to collect data and create stories that help drive actionable insights. The product started as an in-house tool used primarily by our research team to gather and organize information from client stakeholders and users. As part of a suite of in-house tools, Storybook lives within an administrative platform called Bookcase.
The Approach
Through an agile development process, we iterated on new feature sets to expand Storybook and Bookcase to allow for external EY team access and eventually client access. In addition to building out an updated design system aligned closer to the EY brand, I was tasked with designing features such as a more robust search and filtering system, image uploader, and functionality to view data in a list vs. grid format within Storybook. We also streamlined several administrative workflows within Bookcase, such as account and user management, across various user roles. In order to validate design concepts, I collaborated with a research team member to conduct usability testing with a set of EY users that were familiar with the tool outside of our studio to gather insights on how they might use Bookcase and Storybook in their own day to day.
