Connecting customers and coaches
through mobile ordering

The Challenge
Herbalife is a nutrition and wellness company that operates as a franchise of independent club owners and coaches that sell products in the form of protein shakes, smoothies, etc. Our team was initially engaged by stakeholders to ideate in a 5-day sprint design hack-a-thon in rethinking their club business management tools and brand new native mobile customer application. From there, our design expertise led to longer-term work on the first release of a customer mobile ordering app using the scaled agile methodology.

The Approach
Throughout the design process, we conducted numerous club visits in Philadelphia and Los Angeles to better understand how owners interface with their customers and how customers might engage with their nutrition clubs through a digital experience. Key findings from interviews, co-design efforts, and guerilla testing helped to inform and prioritize important features that would shape the customer app MVP experience for new customers, existing customers, and customers with premium memberships.

 
 

From our club visits, we found that customers were most interested in:
• Ordering shakes on-the-go
• Interacting with their community outside of the physical space
• Having the ability to track fitness and wellness goals
• Earning rewards

We leveraged our findings to prioritize features for MVP and help shape the product roadmap.

 
 

Throughout the design process, we collected inspiration from mobile apps across fitness, and nutrition and wellness industries. Additionally, we looked at common UX patterns used across mobile applications that included similar features to what we had planned for the MVP experience.

 
 

As lead designer, I collaborated with other designers outside of our studio and on the client side to establish a design system based on their existing branding, and create a cohesive experience across all nutrition club applications. The visual exploration involved working closely with front-end development in motion and animation studies to enhance the UI.
