Rethinking Playbook navigation
The Challenge
Playbook is a component library that was created in-house for supporting developer collaboration, responsive demos, and the sales process. The main navigation began to lack clear direction and context throughout the experience, so we were tasked with identifying areas of opportunity and providing recommendations within a 3-week timespan as part of a quick research & strategy effort.
The Approach
With top goals in mind, I teamed up with members of our research team to assess Playbook’s challenges through various activities. We began with a competitive/comparative analysis to take a closer look at common design patterns and frameworks used in other UI libraries. From there, we conducted interviews and co-design sessions with a multi-disciplinary group of developers, designers, and project managers to better understand the pain points and use cases of Playbook. Our discovery included insights on how participants expected Playbook navigation to be organized and how we might modify or enhance Playbook’s navigation to support different users.
I created conceptual designs through an iterative process, using key findings along the way to inform and refine ideas. The end result was a presentation to our development team with both near-term and long-term recommendations.
